Here's to the best mom around.

An Open Letter To My Mom
Keely Brown

Dear Mom,

Who would've thought that one day you would become my best friend? The one that knows all my secrets, all my drama and all my hopes and dreams. I've never had a friend quite like you—someone who is willing to stay up at all hours of the night to listen to me vent, to give me medicine at 4 a.m. when I wake up with a cold, and to drive me all over the state for soccer games. Needless to say, you can't be replaced.

We've had our share of fights and quarrels, but ultimately we share laughs and smiles whenever we're together. From people watching, to our jam sessions in the car, you're always willing to participate in anything that involves having fun. It doesn't matter old you are (not that you're old), you'll always have the spirit of a 21 year old.

You're the first person I call when I have exciting news because I know you'll be just as excited as I am (if not more). You're the person I call when I'm walking to class, just because I miss you and want to hear your voice. But most of all, you're the person I look up to most. I only wish I could be half the person you are when I grow up.

You walk with such integrity and humbleness wherever you go. You care for those around you and are always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. You are the strongest woman I have ever met, and I have the utmost respect for you. You follow Christ with your whole being and always aim to do whatever is pleasing to Him. I can't wait to tell my future daughter about her amazing grandmother one day.

Thank you for teaching me to love and respect myself. Thank you for teaching me to not settle for anything less than what I deserve, and for standing up for me when I needed you. Thank you for always lending me your ears when I need someone to listen to me, and a shoulder when I need to cry.

I love you more than the sun, the moon and stars in the sky. Thanks for being the best mom ever.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
