An Open Letter To My Loved One Who Passed

If there was anything I could tell you, here's what I wish I could say

Dear Dad,

Its been a while. A lot has changed since you've been gone and unfortunately the time has gone by so slow. It's like watching a clock and waiting for the time to change: it feels like a life time waiting for each minute to pass. I've grown a lot since you last saw me and I know that you're watching over me every second of everyday. Hopefully you're enjoying your time in heaven with no glasses, hearing aids, or a cane, just a place where you can finally be free. I hope you know mom and I think about you every day. Sending up prayers, looking at old pictures, reliving memories and wishing we had just one more day together. That's what I would love, and I think I can speak for your friends and family when I say that's what I wish we could all have. Just one more day.

I hope I am making you proud down here. I've graduated high school, moved onto college and I'm in the process of getting my degree. Playing sports, and getting involved in school activities has had the most positive impact on me though. After your passing, every dance recital, band concert, golf match and color guard performance has been for you. There's no other reason I would be doing what I do, had it not been for you pushing me to be the best I could be and to do what makes me happy. Thank you for always being there to cheer me on and most importantly for being my number one fan.

Your little sport,

Kate

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
