When you're just waking up from a surgery, the truth may come out of your confused, post-op self. I just got my wisdom teeth out and left the oral surgeons office fairly drugged up. I faintly remember what was going on but my mother was sure to let me know all the silly things I said. She was quick to inform me I announced very loudly to an empty elevator "I love my brother!" Which is so true. When I think of all the important men in my life, my little brother tops the list.
First there was just me, and when my little brother came along I'm sure I was very excited to play the big sister role. Now I realize that being a big sister is a lifetime commitment and having a little brother is the greatest blessing I could ever wish for.
An Open Letter to Little Brothers:
Dear Little Brother,
First of all, thank you for being you. You are growing up to be such an amazing person and I am so proud to be your older sister. You are kind and level headed and always seem to know what the right thing to say or do is. You are absolutely hilarious and I love to laugh with you until my stomach hurts. I feel so lucky to be here to watch you grow into your skin. Although you are younger, you set such a good example and I truly (and literally ~ please stop growing) look up to you.
Thank you for always being my partner in crime! Whether it's on family vacations or just goofing off at home, I know you're always down for raising hell. I love our adventures together and appreciate having a built in friend around! You've promised me we'll continue to be close when we're older, and I'm holding you to that!
I want to also thank you for always being honest with me. For giving me advice when I need it or telling me the zit on my forehead is actually as bad as I think it is. I value your honesty and ability to tell it like it is without offending me. You have a way of making fun of me in a way that I am able to laugh along, too. Thank you for always accepting me for my strange self and for supporting all the silly things I do.
I wish nothing but the best for you and I love you with all of my heart. Thank you for teaching me how to love someone unconditionally and giving me the responsibility of being your older sister!
I loved you're adorable, scrawny, gapped tooth, long haired self who couldn't say my name properly even if his life depended on it, but I love the you that you have become even more. I promise to be by your side for every twist and turn life throws your way, no matter what. I'm so lucky to call you my little brother and I'll always be on your side!
Love always,
Your Older Sister
