An open letter to high school girls,
First things first, don’t cry over anyone in high school. I promise where you are in life right now is only temporary. Everything that means the world to you now, will seem silly the second you walk across the stage at graduation.
Something my mom always told me growing up was that "friends are for a season." At the time, I thought she was crazy because I was going to be best friends with these people for the rest of my life. No joke, I have spoken to maybe 10 kids I went to high school with after graduation, and I am totally okay with it!
The relationships you build in high school are so precious during your time there.
These are the people that you create memories with and cherish the time you spend together. But, I promise life has more to offer than some girls that stab you in the back or that boy that continues to break your heart. Freshman, especially, I cannot tell you how important this is but that senior boy on the football team does not give a damn about you and is only after one thing. Don’t give him the time of day because you are worthy of a man who truly loves you. If I could give you any advice, it would be how important communication is. Communication is key to a happy, successful relationship whether it be with a significant other or friends. Good communication skills are still something I have to work on, but I can honestly say since I have started to voice my feelings in relationships I have never been happier.
I know how tough high school is.
You are trying to find yourself and your interest while also trying to fit in. Not everyone you meet is going to like you- there will be rumors spread no matter how hard you try and avoid them, and you will have your heart broken either from friends, boys, or both. It is these events that are going to mold you into a strong beautiful woman. Take every experience or situation and learn something from it. Do not necessarily focus on what everyone thinks about you, but rather what you think of yourself. Stay home Friday night and study every once in a while.
Because, I promise you, there is no great feeling than being accepted to your dream school and it makes all the hard work worth it.
