An Open Letter To My High School Best Friends

As life takes us down different paths, there are some things I have to say.

An Open Letter To My High School Best Friends
Maggie Mounce

To my high school best friends,

I can't believe this time has come. I can't believe I'm sitting here, in my college dorm room, at an unfamiliar school in an unfamiliar city, writing this to you today. I've found myself walking, hesitant but steady, down this isolated new path, which until a few months ago, was closely and steadfastly intertwined with yours for what felt like would last forever. Until it didn't and a bend in the road guided us in totally different directions. We journeyed together, but our destinations were not the same. I guess they never really were.

And that's okay.

You and I are both traveling down bright, shiny paths toward something bigger and better, and we will both reach the potential that we've been harboring inside us all this time. I'm sad that it's not together, but I'm proud to have shared part of the journey with you. I'm nothing but excited for you as you work towards reaching your own destination.

Although we may no longer be together, that doesn't mean that our friendship has to change in any way. I can't wait to hear about all the adventures your journey takes you one, and I want you to know that you have a spot in my heart that only you can fill. No matter how many new friends I might make, you'll never be replaced.

So I'd like to say bye- for now- and good luck as you embark on the next part of your life. You mean so much to me, and I can't wait to be friends for the rest of our lives. I'll see you when our paths converge again!

With much love,

Your friend

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
