To My High School Friends Across The Country

No matter where life takes us...

To My High School Friends Across The Country
Jenna Riech, 2017

Dear friends across the country,

A year ago, being this far apart for so long was just a thought in our minds, it was an issue we did not yet have to deal with or realize. Being in our second semester of our freshman year of college now has shown how fast the time has gone by. Although I don’t always realize it, I miss you guys more and more every day. College brings us new beginnings, new friends, and new experiences, but the friends you have known since kindergarten cannot automatically be replaced.

You were the friends I grew up with. The friends I celebrated my huge accomplishments with: getting over the awkward middle school stages, getting our braces off, getting bat mitzvah’d, committing to college, graduating high school, going to prom, and every other event in between. Whatever the moment was, we did it together.

Oh how the times have changed. We now attend separate colleges which are located across the country, and we all have new friends to share our upcoming experiences with. It’ll be great, right? Yes, it will, but thank you for everything we have already experienced together, by each other’s sides.

No matter the distance, we can say one thing, we will never lose touch. Whether it’d be texting, snapchatting, Facebook or anything else, we see each other every day without knowing it.

Thank you for putting up with me. Through all the drama of everything and anything, we’ve been there for each other. Thank you for being there when I needed you most. Through everything.

Thank you for the endless laughter and jokes we have shared with one another. There are not enough words to describe the things we have experienced together. Thank you for always being there for a good laugh when I need one.

Thank you for being my people. Thank you for being the ones I can talk about to my college friends, them obviously knowing who you are due to the hundreds of photos on my wall. Thank you for being there when I need someone to facetime, thank you for being my “best friends from home.”

Days have passed, now months, and soon enough years, but don’t forget the mark we have made on one another as we get older and make new friends to share so many memories with. Thank you for the years of laughter, smiles and tears. No matter how far apart we are, we’ll always be so close. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Love,

Your high school friend in Florida.

10 things that happen the second Thanksgiving is over

To those who celebrate, you just spent an entire day cooking an elaborate meal with all of your favorite foods. You probably ate your body weight in pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes. What happens now? Oh yea, Christmas. It’s time to take out all of the decorations and Christmas themed things that have been sitting in the attic since last year; it’s time to make a reappearance. 18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
