I can't make anyone understand a police officer's job, but I can share it from my point of view; I am a proud daughter of an officer.
My father joined the police academy when I was in first grade. I remember being so proud of him and would write in my journals at school, talking about him going to the academy to save people's lives. That sense of pride stands with me every day but as I got older I noticed the danger my father puts himself in.
He has received awards and recognition for all the incredible things he has done but when I think about what he had to go through to achieve those honors, it was a shocking reality. He had saved a child hanging from a bridge who tried to commit suicide, he ran into a burning building to save an elderly man off duty and has gotten many drug and gun related criminals off the street.
What happened to the days when people would aspire to be police officers and try save lives? This whole debacle on police hate is wrong. Anyone who says otherwise, I simply disagree. This society treats everyone as a whole when we would much rather be known as our own individual person, right? So how is it that when one officer is corrupt the entire force is destined to be shot at, rioted, and essential fear for their life?
Do we go out and kill the men and women in the military when there are double agents, traitors, etc.? No, we do not. Yes, obviously I know that many are opposed to military intervention and everyone is entitled to their opinion but we stand as a nation together to support our men and women at war because they protect us, our country. But, there lays my question, why is a police officer any different?
Let us shut down each and every police department and see how the world ends up. It would result in complete chaos, it would be "the purge." I wonder if the world would be able to get itself back together again.
I cannot imagine life without officers, I look up to not only my father but every officer. Those who feel hatred towards them I ask you to take a moment to think about who you would call if someone broke into your house with intentions to harm, who would you call when you can't find your child, who would you call if someone you love has overdosed on drugs; I ask again, who would you call? I hope your answer to those questions was, "I'd call 911".
Now do not get me wrong, I understand people have lost family members at the hand of officers, justified or not; it must be tough. I also do agree there are corrupt officers out there. But think a little; there are bad teachers, bad doctors, and bad presidents but that does not mean that the whole lot of them are bad.
This media frenzied world has the belief that whatever the internet and tv have portrayed is essentially correct. When has the internet or Television ever been a 100% credible source? Never. The people in the media will often skew information to either make it more interesting or to rack up their views.
What I can honestly say is that the brutality and hate towards police officers are making this a shamefaced world. America was founded and progressed itself so everyone had equality, who are we to judge whose lives matters most?
Blue lives matter. Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.
