Dear Girl Who Struggles With Self-Worth,
I know how you feel: feeling like you have to life up to some kind of expectation everyday, whether that's from you or another person. It’s hard. This world seems to bring you down everyday and there is no escape from this criticism: "Do this, do that. Go here! Be like that person and go there!" It’s hard and you feel broken. You feel like there is no escape from this seemingly endless cycle. But let me tell you, you are NOT alone.
You might not believe it, but I promise you it's true. Not only do your friends and family love you, but the creator of the universe loves you. He loves you so much that he DIED for you on the cross. Whether you believe it or not, it's also true. He created you in His image!
Genesis 1:27 says: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
Psalm 139:13-15 (and basically that entire chapter) says: "...you are fearfully and wonderfully made....wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well...."
Romans 5:8 says: "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
There are so many more verses that speak TRUTH, especially on this subject.
I used to struggle with this and the song "You are more" by Tenth Avenue North helped me so much. The lyrics hit me right in the core.
You are more than your mistakes; you are more than anything you have and anything you have already done. God will never leave you leave you or forsake you. He knows you by name. You are not defined by what this world says, or by what possessions you have, or mistakes. You are defined by God! If you're worth it to Christ, no one else's opinion matters. Christ made YOU, and he did not make a mistake.
Sincerely,
Someone who understands
