Taylor Swift said it best: “In your life you’ll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team.” Oh, how true it is. I know you are living in the moment right now and you don’t want to think about these days of your life coming to a close, but one day they will. Right now, you think that high school is what your life revolves around. Maybe you are a cheerleader, maybe you are just another member of the student section, but no matter what you’re involved in at your high school just know this -- you were made for bigger things.
The experiences you have in high school are not all that your life will consist of. God has given you a purpose in life and that purpose is not to be “stuck in your glory days” forever. What happens when you graduate and can’t wear that cute cheerleading uniform anymore? What happens when that boy that you’re dating that you think is so cute, dumps you for another girl? What happens when Mom and Dad stop giving you money, and you have to earn your own?
It’s time to wake up, girl. God designed you. Every. Single. Detail. He knows the number of hairs on your head and the exact number of days you have on this earth. He didn’t design you just to wear that uniform, or date all of those bad boys. He designed you to bring glory and honor Him.
High school won’t last forever. You’re going to have to move on one day. So, here is my point: don’t focus so much on high school. Do your best, but your future is way more important. Work hard in school, fall in love with Jesus and spend time doing what makes you happy. If your friends judge you or shut you out for not partying on Friday nights, then they weren’t your true friends to begin with. Think about this — will the decisions you are making now benefit or harm you in 10 years? I’m not saying that you need to stop having fun, what I’m saying is that you need to start thinking of your future. You were made for so much more than what you are living for right now.
So look ahead, Princess. Be present, but also be aware of your decisions. Find Christ if you haven’t already, and start living for Him and not for Friday night. Jesus will make you so much happier than any cheer uniform, cute boy or party ever will. Have fun and make memories during these years, but also be mindful of your future. If what you are doing today is not getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow then it is time for a change.
