Dear me,
I'm writing this to you. Well me, in the future. About twenty years in the future, so you're about thirty eight years old. But why am I writing this to you? The sheer curiosity of what I have accomplished or what I hope for the future. Since you are so caught up in your current life state, right now you're probably wondering what's currently happening in your life, because you got so caught up in living the new one that you completely forgot about this past one. I'll fill you in on what's happening.
You're enrolled in a four year university that goes beyond as well depending on your major. You're eighteen years old, and you hopefully know what you are going to do with your life. No matter how scary it seems, you just can't wait to be that crazy English teacher. Or whatever you choose to be. Who knows, next year you could decide that science is your calling. (It isn't trust me.) But the important thing is you're very sure of yourself and who you're going to be. I mean, you're pretty awesome right now.
You're very obsessed with the latest artists you can find like Nirvana, even if it is a early 90's band. You can't help but wonder why you can relate to Kurt Cobain, because well, you don't partake in drugs or drink. You're not the typical eighteen year old. You're a vegetarian. You cannot get over your one and only love forever, your favorite puppy. She's probably long gone by now, which pains me to write. There's much more I could add to your personality, but I can run it down for you in few words. You're very awkward but you're okay with that, you're pretty happy for the most part and life's going great.
Now for the future, here's what I hope for. I hope the future is awesome and you're creating more memories, being the total stellar human that you are. I wonder if you have kids. Honestly they're probably young because the thought of marriage probably only occurred to you about five years ago. Marriage scares you right now. Did you have two kids or more? I've always wanted two. I also kinda hope that you're an old lady that yells at kids to get off her lawn while drinking a glass of wine.
But what I ultimately hope for is that, you have found happiness with yourself. Something in your life has a purpose and proved everyone who told you that you couldn’t go through college is now looking at you. Saying, “She’s awesome,” I don’t just worry about what you have going on in your life but all that I can hope for is that you feel fulfilled in what you are doing. You’re healthy and most importantly, you are able to get out of bed excited for the day.
I’m sure you’re awesome future me, just imagine what your thirteen year old self would think of you! Remember when you were depressed? Do you remember thinking that, you would definitely not even make it to college? I hope those days are long gone and you can take a look at your life and think to yourself, “I must have done something right”.
Keep being you, future me. I’m pressing to be you one day, even though it’s hard. I can do this. One day at a time.
