Why I Can't Stop Talking About That Time I Worked At Cedar Point
Elizabeth Borst

The amazing thing about working at Cedar Point was not the perks (access to amusement parks and leaving my hometown) that lured me in. Don't get me wrong, it was top notch to get off of work or use a day off and go ride roller coasters or relax in the lazy river. It wasn't the sun-kissed skin I earned (and some tacky tan lines), or even the beautiful sunsets on the beach that made my summer. The best part of working at Cedar Point was every moment, memory, and experience that I will not be able to forget because of the incredible and inspiring individuals I met along the way.

To My Coworkers:

Thank you for making work not suck. In-service, team-building, opening, closing, cleaning, guarding, and every aspect of work would of probably sucked if you weren't the fun and down to earth people that you are. Thank you for accepting that I nod my head too fast when I scan (always to the beat of the song), that I dance when I rove, and that I look awful at all times of the day.

To My Roommates (Even The Honorary Ones):

For the lovely individuals I met in my room the first day, thank you for making living with complete strangers the least terrifying, if not comfortable, experience possible. If we didn't click right away, I might have easily just ran home. Thank you for dealing with my early exits and entries, my annoying alarm clock, my messy part of the room, and any other bothersome activities I do (you the real MVP). Thank you roommates and honorary roommates alike for always keeping it fun and exciting in 210.

To My Friends From Around The World:

Thank you for sharing your culture with me. Whether it was learning about your country and your customs, or learning bits and pieces of your language, there was never a dull moment. You widened my eyes to a world beyond my own and I will forever be thankful for that. Also thank you for accepting my poor attempts at dancing at Louie's on Wednesdays. Many of you have traveled far and wide, and every description and story of your travels has enticed me. Whether it was your month long trip set for the end of summer, or your spontaneous visit to a city in America, it was beautiful to see someone I could relate to (as a student, as a young-adult, as a friend) embark on such an adventure. You have inspired me to act rather than to dream, and have even lead me to travel to London recently (simply because I can).

To the Friends I Will Never Forget:

Thank you for making it one hell of the summer. For those who always had an agenda for the day or night, thanks for making almost everyone's summer "cedar fantastic." For those who were always up to find something to do like enjoy the rides, grab some dinner, or hit up Louie's after work, thank you for accompanying me throughout my "best summer ever." Thank you for sharing a part of you with me. Making friends you can talk about anything and everything with is something I am quite grateful for. Every story you said, every hope you shared, and every trouble you needed to let out I was and will always be willing to listen. Thank you for being you. ♥

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
