You deserve to hear this.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

I have seen you struggle through many heartbreaks, long nights and making choices that you know will affect your future. I have seen you lose family members or your best friend and the heart ache you experience after. I have witnessed the times you have just wanted to give up but didn't. I have seen your fears come alive before. So I want to be the first to say, you deserve the world. You are the most kindhearted, passionate, strong, hard working individual I have ever met. You impress people with your personality and big heart. You will go out of your way just to make someone else's day better when you are the one who deserves to be treated that way. You continuously have your every ounce of your beings laid out but people find a way to shatter it. You never feel smart enough, beautiful or handsome enough, but you are more than that. You are more then what society makes you feel like. I want to tell you that you deserve better, you deserve more. You deserve the world.

So why I am writing this letter now? Because you deserve it. You deserve to hear this everyday but you would probably deny it since you feel like you don't need to hear this. You have really hit the hard patch of life but have not shown or told others about it. As much as I wish I could take away all the struggle and pain you have experienced, I can't. But that doesn't mean I can't be the change and help you need. I am here for you whenever you need it even when if it may seem like I am not. I am and will always be there for you, I'm just a phone call away. You don't even have to say you need help, just that you need a friend; a best friend and we will do what we do best to make your problems go away.

Next time you have a new interesting or hard life choice to make, just know I will be there. I want to hear your thoughts and decisions. I want to support you and be that listening ear. I want to be the one who empathizes with you, not sympathize. I want to be that one to make your day better. Because you deserve the world whether your strong persona says so or not. You are a wonderful human being. Don't ever let others define that for you or make you feel less. You are perfectly imperfect.

XOXO,

your best friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
