Dear Dog,
You have seen me cry, seen my accomplishments and watched me as I made a fool of myself at every holiday party. I love you to the moon and back a thousand times. We have had some great adventures and I know that when you pass away, I will cry for days. I love you more than I like people and sleep. That says a lot.
You know all of my secrets, what makes me happy and what makes me sad. I know that I can always count on you when I come home from a crappy day at work and just want to go to sleep. You are always down to nap. I learned over the years that if you do not like one of my friends, then I probably should not like them either. People always say dogs know best and they are right!
My best friends are also your best friends. We are a package deal. If people want to be friends with me, then they must love you too. That is how this whole thing works. I could not imagine my life without you. It is hard to come to terms that one day I will come home and you will not be here with a wagging tail and a smile to greet me.
You can't be my best friend forever, but you can be my best friend while you are around and that is good enough for me! When I got you, I knew you would be my best friend. I love doing everything with you such as taking you to the beach and taking you through drive thrus so you can cry and maybe get a free fry or a chicken nugget. When we go to the beach, I love watching you run your face through the dry sand as you think it is snow like when we lived in Pennsylvania.
When people see you, I hope they see a happy, spoiled dog because that is exactly what you are and I wouldn't have it any other way. After all, what good is it to have a dog if you can not spoil it? You are the best dog I have ever had and I've had a lot of them in my lifetime. I love enjoying the simple things in life with you. I am going to miss eating dinner and you not sitting at my feet waiting on me to drop some crumbs so you can catch them because you are a fatty when it comes to food.
Some last words to you, my four-legged best friend. I love our adventures and I hope we have a lot more of them. I love you so much and thank you for being the best foot warmer ever. I could not ask for a better dog than you. You have made me laugh, made me cry, cheered me up on my worst days and always protected me when I needed it most. I will never be able to thank you enough. As you grow old and grey, I hope you know that you are my best friend and I have never loved anything as much as I have loved you.
Sincerely,
Your Two-Legged Best Friend
