Open Facebook and browse it for a few minutes and the only thing you see is memes, articles, and posts about the presidential election. The outrage and mixed emotions about the presidential elections is inevitable to miss. Now don’t get me wrong, I don't think either candidate was better than the other and I will not try to push my political opinions down your throat. But I can say that I understand the fear in the eyes of my fellow Americans. I am writing this for all of those who are scared of what our future entails.
I saw the fear in my mothers eyes Wednesday morning when I told her Trump had won. I hear the fear in the voices of my latino family. I see the fear in the eyes of my Latino, Muslim, and LGBT brothers and sisters. We are all in this together, we need to stay united and we need to come together so we can bring about change. This election will not crush everything that has been done, the change that has occurred will not be reversed if we stick together.
Know that I respect you're political views, I don't care if you like or dislike the soon to be president. All I care is that we do not continue to divide and offend each other. We cannot allow this election to justify racism, violence, or sexism. We can simply not allow our country to spiral the way it has begun to. We need to respect each other's political views and at the same time accept that so many of us are scared. We need to accept that the outrage did not come out of thin air, it is justified outrage. We need to use the outrage to unite, to protest, to make change.
We are in this together. We are one and I stand in solidarity with my scared brothers and sisters. I stand in solidarity with my scared undocumented immigrants, Latinos, Muslims, and LGBT brothers and sisters. I stand in solidarity with all my fellow scared Americans. We will get through this, together.
