Dear The Brooklyn Nets,
Ever since your move to Brooklyn back in 2012 the team seemed to be heading in the right direction. With a brand new arena to play in, a new fan base and a roster filled with talent, the sky was the limit. For the first time in a while, I actually saw a chance of making it to the NBA Finals. With a starting lineup of Brook Lopez, Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson and Kevin Garnett, it gave us the chance to make some noise in the playoffs. Unfortunately, we lost at the hands of the Miami Heat and it was all downhill from there.
This year has been nothing more than a disappointment, currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a total of 18 wins and 47 losses. It’s really no surprise, though, ever since losing our starting point guard at the beginning of the season and watching player leave the team game by game, it’s basically turned into a rebuilding season. Having no first round draft picks for the next few seasons and a lack of leadership on and off the court; it’ll be a while till the team is relevant again.
Although I’m disappointed in the way the season has turned out, you’ll always be my favorite team no matter what. Obviously, you make it hard for me to watch your games on a consistent basis, but I try to tune in as much as I can. And things could be worst, watching the team go 12-70 back in 2010 was a nightmare, yet I was still at the IZOD center cheering my team on. Of course, it’d be much easier to just call someone else my favorite team, such as the Warriors, but then I wouldn’t be true to myself. I’ve been with you through thick and thin and now that the team happens to be facing a downslope, I don’t plan on going anywhere.
I think I can speak for everyone when I say it’s never easy liking a sports team that loses. Just as much as you hate to lose, I hate to watch you lose, success is something everyone wants but sometimes it doesn’t workout. At this point, the team’s at a rebuilding stage and these times are never fun. It’s going to be painful watching the team lose for the next few years, but I’m going to try and stay positive. With some good trades and having the money to spend on some talented free agents, anything can happen.
My final words are to finish off the season strong and to try and win as many games as we can. With no draft picks for next year, tanking to get a higher draft pick isn’t an option. Winning now will prove to other teams that we’re improving each game. Building up some confidence, motivation and team chemistry for next year will serve as a virtue. This season may have been a bust, but I’m hoping for the best next season and my confidence for the team will never rest. We have a lot to prove for next season and I know we can do it.
From,
A loyal fan
