Dear NBA superstars,
What is it that you want most in your career?
Is it money? Fame? Is it to be the greatest to ever do it?
Whatever your goal is, there are many ways in which you can accomplish your goal. And perhaps it's time I tell you about a town where stars who give it their all and play their hearts out every night are treated like basketball gods: Boston.
OK, maybe Boston isn't the best team right now. Yes, our lone star comes in the form of point guard Isaiah Thomas, a prolific scorer who mostly comes off the bench to provide the team with a huge spark in scoring and play-making. But the young talent the Celtics have and the foundation they have established should be enough for a star to take a chance on this team. Winning is what matters in Boston, and that comes with incentives for those of you out there looking for a payday,
Everyone else is pretty much an above average role player who up and coming coach Brad Stevens managed to make into a meaningful player. There's the hard nosed point guard in Marcus Smart, the defensive stopper Avery Bradley, and the decent two way player in Jared Sullinger. But none of these guys can take this team to the next level the way they are structured to play at the moment. There's only so much Brad Stevens can do with a group of players like this, and it's about time someone took a chance on the young and decently talented Celtics team.
Here's a quick pitch to the elite class of 2016 of Free Agents:
Kevin Durant
Hey KD,
I know your head is with the Thunder, and your heart may be with the Wizards, but here's why i think you could lead the Boston Celtics to an NBA Championship somewhere in the near future.
First, our insane skill set and physical tools matched with Brad Stevens' genius mind would create one of the most dangerous combinations in the NBA.
Kevin, there's a reason the Thunder are good but not good enough to get past the first two rounds of the playoffs. It has nothing to do with your personnel, as Westbrook and your supportive cast match very well with your playing style. So if it's not the players' fault, who's fault is it? The answer is a combination of your head coach and your organization's management. Billy Donovan? Nothing more than a good college coach who turned out to be a decent NBA coach at best. If you joined forces with Brad Stevens it would maximize your potential, and it would bring out the best of your game. Not to mention Brad has never coached a player like you. Imagine the possibilities with both you and Isaiah Thomas at his disposal. The ceiling of the Celtics would be endless! And it's not like the Celtics are getting old, with the average age of the team standing at a mere 25 years old. I feel like the Celtics are the best of both worlds for you Kevin: They have the star that matches Westbrook's ability, and the organization and management of the very respected Wizards team.
Just something to think about Kevin.
Harrison Barnes
Hey Harrison,
Listen to me for just a few minutes. Your potential is obvious and clearly you are comfortable for the moment. Golden State is coming off a championship win, and Steph Curry is arguably the best player in the NBA aside from LeBron James. So the question for you is: Are you happy being the second option with your superstar potential? I like your game Barnes, I'm not gonna lie. I have always had a thing for strong finishers near the rim with a humble but confident attitude. So consider for a moment this scenario: It's a young team with a very up and coming coach. The management has always put winning above anything else, so you wouldn't be losing out in competitiveness you usually get from the Warriors. It would be YOUR team. You could come and join forces with Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart. But you could be one of the centerpieces! Fame, money, and being a part of a team with 17 banners above your head at practice every single day.
Something to think about HB ...
DeMar DeRozan
Hey DeMar,
I'm thinking I want you on the Celtics. The reasons should be obvious.
Your offensive talent is elite. You are by far one of the hardest players to guard in the NBA on the offensive end, and your slashing and hacking game is something I appreciate. Your shooting is pretty great as well, so just think about where you could lead this team. A defensive-minded team led by hard-nosed Marcus Smart would make sense here. It wouldn't be so bad losing Kyle Lowry when you have this bulldog of a guard who, in his second season in the NBA, has shown flashes of leadership and defensive greatness. Brad Stevens should also be a big reason why you should come to Boston. And here's the thing: If you come to Boston, the Celtics would have two stars. The Duo of Isaiah Thomas and DeMar DeRozan would form for a powerful 1-2 punch. And do you know what that would mean? It would mean that other people would jump ship HARD to form the new Big Three. How about competing with LeBron James for the Eastern Conference Championship every year? How does winning an 18th championship banner for a historic franchise sound?
Something to think about DeMar.
