Open Letter to Edinboro University

There are so many things to love about Edinboro.

Everyone always says, “You’re from New York, what made you choose Edinboro?” I never quite know what to tell people when they ask me that question. The decision I made to come to Edinboro was greatly influenced by my decision to play college lacrosse here. I knew soon after walking around campus and meeting the team that Edinboro would be the place I called home for the next four years. I recently realized that my love for lacrosse isn’t the only reason that Edinboro is so special for me. Although our town might not be the huge college town that most college kids desire, I wouldn’t trade my decision to come here for the world.

When we get bored at Edinboro, we can always find somewhere to eat! I love going to Crossroads and listening to the bands while scarfing down an order of pub pretzels. I love walking to Dairy Supreme with my friends when it is nice out, even though we can drive. I love waking up Saturday and knowing that even though we don’t plan it, all of my friends will be at Lakeside Bagel Shop, either eating or working. I love when my parents come and take me to La Grille for an amazing dinner, while I listen to my favorite kind of music and when they take me to Flip Cafe (best diner in the world) for breakfast in the morning! Most of all I like getting three tacos for $3 dollars with my teammates every Tuesday and Thursday, and I mean every!

I fall in love with this town a little bit more every day. The small town feel of Edinboro can make almost anyone feel at home. I love lakeside and walking by the lake. I love putting my paddle board in the water and floating on tubes with my friends when it gets warm. I love knowing that anywhere I go, I will see a familiar face. I love walking on Meadville Street and looking around Earthshine and the antique shops. I love the random adventures I take with friends to go on a hike and take pictures. I love sitting in my friend’s front lawn on lakeside doing nothing but listening to music. We might not always have huge sporting events or raging parties to attend, but we have fun and that’s what matters most!

I love Earp Hall and all the friends I have made in my time in these dorms. I have made some of the best memories of my time, just hanging out in my friend’s dorm. I love that we all walk into each other’s room without even knocking. I love that we all crowd ourselves into one dorm to get ready to go out and to hangout when we get back. I love the family that the dorms have provided me!

Some people tell me that Edinboro is small and they never would have come here if they could do it over again. I have had my days where I said I hated it and begged to go home, but my 'Boro family is something that I will never replace. People always find themselves wanting something better, something more, but I will no longer wish away my time here, because I have fallen in love with this town and the people in it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
