Most people are going to open this article wondering, 'What is she even talking about? What is a "Common Sense" saying?' A common sense saying is a saying that people say and believe is common belief. An example of this is the saying, 'Opposites Attract.' To many this may be common knowledge, but what about the saying, 'Birds of a feather flock together'? Which one is true? Nobody knows because honestly it can go either way, so this letter goes out to all those people who use the phrases and sayings without thinking about the contradictory sayings.
First of all, WHY?? Why do you believe any of these?? And why base your life off of a saying? People say everyday "You are never too old to learn something new." And maybe you agree with that statement, but what about "You can teach an old dog new tricks."? So which is it? Are you truly going to ever stop learning or can you not ever be too old to learn? Maybe they are both true to a sense or maybe its just an idea of preference.
Second of all, STOP. Stop living your life off of these little phrases. A lot of people say "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Meaning if you work harder than everyone else it will be worth it, but on the other hand people also say "The nail that sticks up gets hammered." So what is it? Should you always work your hardest and do more work than everyone to get rewarded or should you be like everyone else so there is nothing to worry about? Honestly, you should not live by either of these two statements. You shouldn't just do all the work just to get rewarded and you shouldn't not so anything in fear of getting shot down.
Thirdly, no seriously, stop. A lot of people like to go by the phrase "opposites attract," but do they really?? If you are a total opposite from someone else then chances are you are not compatible. I have seen a lot of people use this phrase when they are trying to convince someone else that they are with the right guy/girl. And again the opposite phrase for this is "Birds of a feather, flock together." This can be true. You are more likely to hang out with people you have things in common with. A lot of these phrases are very opinionated. You may not agree with mine and I may not agree with yours, because technically there is not right or wrong phrase to use, so maybe we should stop using them all together and come up with our own thing.
Fourth, do not expect everyone to agree with you on these. One person may say "Two heads are better than one." and another may think "Too many cooks spoil the broth." So in this case is it better to be independent and alone or is more than one better together? This can be circumstantial or can also be a opinion. Each person may have different thoughts when it comes to working alone or working with others, but people ill also have opposing views on it so you cannot always expect people to agree with you
I am done adding points to this so I will kindly ask you people to stop. Stop saying that "opposites attract" or "Better safe than sorry." And learn from the world instead of taking phrases that have been around for decades and living your life off of them.
