An Open Letter To The College Student Who Has Lost Sight Of God

Having faith isn’t supposed to be easy, but it’s seriously the best part about living each day.

To Whom It May Concern:

Just take a deep breath because we’re all in the same boat, or ship wreck, for that matter. Following your religion, whatever that religion may be, is nowhere near as easy as it used to be when we lived under our parents’ roof. But, really, I think we could all use a little wake up call. So here it is.

Let’s stop making excuses.

I know that you’re busy with classes, jobs, midterms, girlfriends, frat boys, etc., but you’ve got to stop acting like there is no time for God in your life. There is always time. Right now, you’re reading this article and you could be spending this precious time praying. But don’t stop reading just yet. I know we all say that we will eventually get back on track because I find myself saying that all the time, but what better time than now? I don’t want you to feel guilty for the distance that you’ve created between yourself and God, but I do want you to find ways to fill that gap. Be creative.

Let’s talk about God.

Stop hiding under the covers like a baby. We’re in the real world now and the people outside of our little hometown bubble are nothing like us; they’re super different and kind of scary. But let’s stop denying our faith by staying quiet. Even though you may feel isolated because it seems like no one in college follows any kind of religious path, you have the opportunity to teach people what you believe in and stick up for all that you stand for. There’s nothing wrong with a little challenge.

Let’s rethink our priorities.

We live in a fast-paced, money-hungry world and we all get side tracked. It seems like we all envy celebrities and models and athletes more than God himself. But why? We have what many of those celebs don’t have and it’s time we realize it. We have the chance to live our lives through Him, money and fame aside. We are constantly being tempted to turn away from God because we’re human and we suck, but we always find our way back in the end. Having faith isn’t supposed to be easy, but it’s seriously the best part about living each day.

Let’s be more appreciative.

The big guy upstairs deserves at least a “thank you” every now and then. I mean, look around. This life is pretty sweet. Whether you’re religious or not, my goal is just to get ya’ll to think and reflect a little bit. So I think my work here is done.

Sincerely,

Your Guardian Angel

P.S. Your halo is showing. ;)

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
