An Open Letter To My College Roommate

College would suck without you.

Hey,

Every part of me wanted to start writing the lyrics to 'Closer' but I had to hold myself back. I want to take this time to acknowledge you and our beautiful friendship, and all of our stupid jokes and insiders and remind you just why I love you and our friendship so much.

Since the beginning, way back when we met on facebook, I was so skeptical of you. I would say no offense, but you already know what I mean. But seriously, we were/are so compatible, there had to have been a catch somewhere along the lines. At least that's what I thought because why would I be so lucky to get a normal, amazing roommate right off the bat? Well, since we've met it's been quite the adventure and we're only halfway through the year.

Thank you for jamming out with me, even so hard we got a noise complaint that one night because we were dancing so hard we made their desks shake! Also thanks for having the same music taste as me, it's comforting to know I could throw on an old Hannah Montana song, or some random indie band and you'll know every word just as well as I do. Thank you for going on drives with me wherever I go, it really sucks without you. Also, thanks for being my crazy dance partner while we're out, I don't know what I would do without our spontaneous synchronized dance moves.

College has helped me blossom in so many ways, it allowed me to be who I've always wanted to be, and honestly you have helped with that so much. We have both grown so much in the time we've lived together already, and we still have so many more experiences to come. Shout out to you for always supporting me and my decisions, it's only fair we support each other because, well, we do live together and that would just be awkward, plus even if the decision we're supporting is bad, we get one hell of a story out of it.

I'll never forget when we combined our beds to make one big bed for cuddling and movie night, or the time where you had me parallel park your car. I'll also never forget how much stuff you brought back to school after our four day weekend, only because I had to carry a lot of it and my arms are still sore. I'm kidding, but you do over pack, luckily, more than me, so I'm allowed to call you out on it. Let us also not forget all the weird boys we've met who we've turned their first names into last names and their new first names are 'Creepy.'

There's nothing I love more than our late night talks about getting married one day, our careers (if I ever make up my mind), and whatever we can really think of. It's always nice to have you right across the room to complain to, even if it's just about the fact that I feel so bloated to the point that people might mistake me for a cow. There's nobody else I would want to get lost with while walking around campus to find our new classes.

There are a million other things that I could bring up, but I felt that these were definitely worth mentioning. Thank you for not only being the best college roommate anyone could ask for, but being my best friend. You're my number one and I don't know what I would do without you. I cannot wait to experience so many more things with you and have you by my side for the rest of my college life.

Love,

Your best friend

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
