Dear Campus Police,

So, we get that working on a college campus is not the best job sometimes. Us students know we aren't always the easiest group to deal with and we make your job just a little tougher than it needs to be, but don't think that we don't appreciate everything you do for us! So, this is our thank you for everything.

Thank you for letting it slide that one time we accidentally got a little sloppy. It's a common understanding that whenever someone with a badge walks over, we put on our "I'm 100 percent fine right now" face (which is not always the easiest task). So thank you for having conversations with us and making sure we're OK. Honestly, we hope you at least find us amusing.

Thank you for being our friends and not just Campus Police. We know that it's tough to be both the good guy and the strict one. We understand that sometimes your job can get monotonous, so we take it into our own hands to keep you on your feet. I mean not many other people are up for 24 hours a day to chat with when doing homework. You've really seen us at our best and worst. Somehow you've done a pretty good job finding the happy medium. Thanks for being our cool older friends on campus.

Thank you for keeping us safe! Us carefree and reckless students often times think we are capable of the impossible. Thanks for keeping us in check, especially on the weekends. You may think your work goes unnoticed, but trust me, we know how difficult we are. Whether it be giving a safety escort after some late night homework or keeping us in check on a Saturday, it is all greatly appreciated.

Thank you for being chill about situations we aren't too proud of putting ourselves in. Isn't fun getting busted, but we really do appreciate when you make the process as quick and painless as possible. Of all people, you know that being a college student has its ups and downs, so thank you for dealing with both the highs and the lows. We probably wouldn't make it through without you!

Sincerely,

All college students everywhere

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
