An Open Letter To My Birth Mother

To my beautiful birth mother,

You’re certainly someone special, I mean you’re the one who had me so without you I would not be here; not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. Knowing you all my life has been a privilege and an honor, because some people don’t have that opportunity. I carry a piece of you wherever I go, whether it’s in my hometown or in a different country. The curiosity will always be there if you think of me as much as I think of you and if you feel the same amount of love the way I do.

The cool thing about being adopted is whenever I’m with you, I can see a lot of me in you, whether it’s your actions or something you say. Come to think of it, I’m like a mini version of you running around and I think it’s safe to say that it’s always scary to think that there is a “mini-me” since the world can barely handle one. (Just kidding) I am so glad that I can take after someone so loving and caring as you, I wouldn’t want to be any other way.

In all honesty, you’re one of my favorite people in my life. Whether if it’s communicating in person or over social media, it’s so nice to know that you care and love me so much. Regardless of the story behind why I am adopted, you work your butt off everyday to make sure that you’re stable and everyone around you is happy and I am so proud to watch you live your life. You are a beautiful person inside and out, and your heart is full of so much love for me that I can feel every time we talk.

I am so thankful and grateful that you’re the one I call my birth mother, because if I didn’t have you in my life I would not be the same person who I am today. You make me do my best and make sure I stay on track because let’s face it, no one likes to be behind in life.

I love you unconditionally, always know that. Even though you don’t live with me, I always hold you in my heart and wherever I go. No matter what, you will have my love and support with everything that you do.

Thank you for being you.

Love you forever and always,

Your Child

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
