Thank you for everything that you do.

Open Letter To My Big's Boyfriend

To My Big's Boyfriend,

When I first met you, I was incredibly unsure about you. Were you good enough for my amazing Big or were you just another dumb boy that was going to break her heart? Were you actually going to stick with her or leave as soon as things started to get serious? Were you worthy enough to even stand next to her? Since you started dating my Big, we have become a little family and I am so grateful for it and you.

Thank you for making my Big happy.

I don't think you know just how happy you make her. Whenever your name is brought up in conversation her eyes light up in a way they never did before. I love asking her how things are with you because she gets so happy and excited just talking about you. If Big's happy, Little's happy. And you treat her so well. My Big is one of the most incredible people I know. She's beautiful and strong and confident. She deserves the absolute best and you give her that.

Thank you for letting me crash your dates when I need my Big.

There were multiple nights where all of my friends bailed out on dinner and you let me crash your date. You never made me feel bad or awkward about it. It was like you actually wanted me there even though I'm sure there were some nights you just wanted some time alone with your girlfriend. There was even that one day where everything was going wrong and all I wanted was to cuddle with my Big but you were hanging out with her up in the sorority suite. When I walked in the door, tears streaming down my face, you handed me a glass of water and gave us space. You respect that sometimes I need my Big and you give her to me, no questions asked. That's really special and I appreciate it more than you know.

Thank you for adopting me as your Lady Little.

There isn't a written rule that says when you start dating a sorority girl her Little becomes your Little but you did it anyway. I know that I'm not just an annoying gnat in your life that just won't go away, I'm your Lady Little. When I was having boy and friend problems you sat with me for hours and just listened. You gave me advice and told me that everything was going to be okay, and it was. You stand up for me when people talk badly about me, even if I was in the wrong and disappointed you. It's nice to know that even when I screw up, I'll still have you and my Big loving and rooting for me.

Thank you for constantly taking care of my Big and me. You really are the best Man Big around.

With Love,

Your Double L

P.S. This doesn't mean if you break her heart I'm going to let you off the hook.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
