Open Letter To My Best Friend That Isn't At College With Me

Remember that I'm always a call away.

Dear bestie,

You are out following your dream, while I am following mine. You chose your own path and, sadly, that did not lead you to come to school with me. But that doesn't mean that I have forgotten about you. Not even close. While you are not here with me psychically, you are here in spirit. And with the help of some technology.

Our constant string of Snapchats, FaceTimes, texts, and calls makes it feel like you're right here with me. It always helps to know that I can reach you in two-point- five seconds. Also, probably the fact that there are pictures of us all over my dorm. You have been my day one since junior year of high school. And I am beyond grateful for all the love and good times that we have shared.

Thank you for always being there for me when no one else was. We have helped each other out through some tough times, but to be honest, I wouldn't have wanted to go through them with anyone else. But let's remember all the good times that we have had. All of the late night drives and going out to dinner, even though we were both on the verge of being broke. Endless laughs are sure to be present any time that we hang out. Hanging out with you is a crazy rollercoaster ride, well with your driving skills it basically is. These good times are what I think of when I'm missing you the most.

Since that won't be happening anytime soon, it's time to reminisce. Don't worry all of my friends know that you're my number one. I talk about you way too much! *insert eye roll because I don't even like you that much* I wish that you were at college with me so that we could have some crazy adventures. So that I could have a going out buddy. So that I could have someone that would go to McDonald's with me at midnight for some chicken nuggets.

I live for the weekends that I come home and we can hang out. Not having you by my side every day is beyond rough. We make sure that whatever amount of time that we have together, we make the most of it. You make me forget that after the weekend I have to go back to school work and not having you there.

Even though leaving you was hard, I would do it all over again. We are both out there chasing our dreams. Just remember that you're my number one (I better still be yours, because if not we're going to have some major problems)! And to answer your phone, if I'm calling or texting that means that I have some dirt to share with you!

From,

The girl that has an empty futon waiting for whenever you want to come visit

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
