An Open Letter To My Best Friend And Roommate
Bree Neer

We have always had dreams of one day living together, but when it actually happened, it was beyond what was expected. There have been some beautiful times, and extremely awkward times. It almost seems like the other day the two of us were looking around town for a new place to call home. While viewing a variety of different apartments, there was talk about how each room would be set up if that was to be the chosen place. Each bedroom was examined closely, and a decision was made as to which room should go to who. We signed a lease and got the keys to our new place. The two of us hurriedly loaded trailers and cars of things to move in. The anticipated feeling of finally moving everything in was a palpable feeling.

After a handful of weeks, everything had been officially unpacked and moved around. Within the first few weeks, so many great memories have been made. Like the first time the two of us went grocery shopping together, making milkshakes almost every other night, playing our favorite band at a high volume while doing dishes, and overall just enjoying each other’s company. We have spent an immense amount of time with each other in the past, but now that we are almost constantly together, we have gotten so much closer. Close enough to where we have at times gotten annoyed with each other. Like how I’d rather be alone when I go grocery shopping, and how you like to take over in the kitchen. Despite what other people have said, we have managed to work through all odds. They say that when best friends live together, there is usually some sort of conflict that arises to where they don’t end up being best friends anymore. I think together we will defy those odds because to me this has been the best experience of my life.

Some of the best benefits have occurred since moving in with you. Like being able to ask you immediately if the outfit I’m in makes me look okay. The fact that you love to cook, and I occasionally get to wake up to you making bacon for breakfast. Having you right down the hall from me when I get upset, or have spectacular news. You attempt to laugh at all of my really lame jokes, and I put up with your extremely rare and weird personality. I am so happy to know that I will get the honors of helping you throughout your first year in college, and all of the exciting memories it will bring. Meeting you has been a blessing, and having the chance to live with you has been a miracle. I am not quite sure how long we will get to enjoy being roommates, but I am taking in the memories day by day. Either way, I hope we always remain in close contact and that you’ll always be my dearest best friend. You truly have been a great one.

Love,

Your Favorite Roomie

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
