An Open Letter To My Best Friend

A true friend is one in a million.

To my best friend,

I don't know where to begin. I am so grateful that you are in my life. Therefore, I want to tell you how much you mean to me.

I love that I am able to be myself around you and I don't have to hide my feelings or my goofy side. Laughing out loud is our language and we don't care if we make all of the people in the room look at us. We can say things that we can't say in front of our mothers and feel like we own the world.

I can always come to you with anything and everything. We talk about accomplishments, personal struggles, the people who drive us up the walls, the boss who can't understand our busy schedule, wedding planning, and how long we spend in the library when we really want to spend time going to the movies.

We seem to agree on everything. If I come to you for a problem about someone I had a disagreement with, you always side with me. I can't tell if it is seriously genuine or if it is because we think too much alike. Those few times where you have not sided with me, you are always able to help me see another side of the situation. You keep me open-minded and humble with everyone I know. But still, you are able to some wayside with me even under those terms.

You are honest with me. Whether I am being rude or obnoxious, you tell me the truth right to my face. You don't hind it or lie. That is something that I really appreciate because it seems like everyone I know lies or is soft with the truth. I need the cold-hearted truth even if you know it is going to make me cross my eyes and cause me to wish that I didn't tell you anything.

We always find fun. Whether it is traveling to the city for a weekend or just a night watching movies, I am always able to have fun and talk until midnight. I love that we are able to be creative with ideas about artwork and life. We paint everything our minds think of while we talk about how to conquer the upcoming week.

I am able to call you when I am heartbroken. No matter where you are, you answer your phone. You let me talk until I am out of breathe and you listen. There is nothing that you have missed. Then, you always have the best advice and you know what to say to make me feel better.

Being a friend is a two-way path. Each of us needs to listen to one another, talk to one another, and remember one another. You have always remembered me. You involve me in your fears, joys, and disappointments. It makes my day when you call me to tell me that the weather or a person reminded you of me. I enjoy hearing you laugh when I call to tell you that my motivation to study is nothing. You never forget about me and I don't forget about you.

Dear friend of mine, I thank God every day that you are in my life and I look forward to many more adventures together.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
