Dear High School Best Friend,
First of all, I just want you to know that I haven't forgotten you while I've been away at a different college. I may not text you as much as I should and I'm definitely guilty of sometimes only calling you when I need something, but you're still my best friend and always on my mind in some way.
Honestly, we had some of the best memories of my life together. Whether it was driving along the highways with the windows open, our hair blowing behind us and listening to iPod playlists at full blast or just sitting in the same room, watching movies and talking about nothing. They were definitely some embarrassing moments that I'll never live down, but I know that you'll only bring them up to tease me because you love me. (I'm thinking about all those awkward boy-encounters we had in middle school...)
I can tell you anything, even now and I know you'll always have my back, even if we haven't spoken weeks. You know everything about me and I know everything about you. But more important than everything else I've said this far, I will always be there for you. If you call me crying at 2 a.m., I will drive the two hours to your school and hand deliver you your favorite tub of ice cream. If you tell me that you want me to watch a youtube video or the latest episode of the show we both like because you want to talk about it, I will. If some boy breaks your heart, I will threaten to break him (but I actually probably won't, I'll just make open-ended threats to make you feel better).
You know just about everything about me, and I think I know everything about you. When we catch up after months of not seeing each other, I always tell you the stories I've saved up about the embarrassing, mostly awkward moments that have happened while you're gone.
We've come up with potential baby names together, planned future vacations and adventures, and have had just the best times I can imagine.
We've also had some rough times. We've gotten on each other's nerves, said things during arguments that neither of us probably shouldn't have, and mostly, we've hurt each other, through words or actions. However, I think that these occurrences helped us grow and understand who the other person was. Even if we couldn't suck it up and apologize out loud, we've always forgiven each other, no questions asked.
You are my person, even though I've found new, college best friends too. I will never forget you and our friendship. Also, studies say that once you've been best friends with someone for more than seven years, you're going to be friends for the rest of your life. So guess what, you're stuck with me now.
I love you, high school best friend. Don't forget that.
Sincerely,
Your high school best friend.
