Dear all college students going through finals week,
I understand how you’re feeling right now. You’ve either just spent these past few days (and nights) studying your butt off and drinking way too much coffee, or you’ve done the exact opposite and procrastinated all of studying and took naps instead to avoid all the realities of your finals. Either way, I understand.
Whether or not you studied, you probably feel unprepared. You feel like you could have done more, maybe slept less (or not slept at all). And even if you did put countless of hours into learning piles of material, you feel like you’re going to fail every final just because the universe is never on your side.
You’re probably sick with a stuffy nose, gross mucus cough, and sneezing all over the place. Yup, we all catch that “finals cold” right around this time. Like you, I am currently relying on DayQuil and a double shot of espresso in my Starbucks drink to help me function.
You’ve already had your finals midlife crisis (twice) and questioned everything you’re doing with your life. The classes you’re taking, your major and why you’re even in college and not traveling the world or something else adventurous. And, it's okay. This is normal. If you're questioning your life right around this time, it probably means you're somewhat mentally stable.
You’re not alone. We all feel the same way, but I’m here to tell you that it’ll all be okay. Finals week sucks, no one can deny that. You might pass your final, or you might fail it, but the question is, will it really be the end of the world? It won't be, I can promise you that. Step back, take a deep breath and sip on your coffee because in the grand scheme of things, life will go on.
Whether you studied your heart out or you're just planning on winging it, just know that we're all in this together (cue in Zac Efron), pass or fail. No matter what the outcome of your tests/essays/projects may be, give yourself some credit and be proud that you've made it through first semester. We all know it takes a hell of a lot of will power to make it through just one semester of college.
Good luck on your finals, and know that you're not alone in the terrible week we have ahead of us. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Sincerely,
Your fellow peer also in finals crisis mode
