Dear Beautiful,

First of all, I know you will be beautiful. Recognize it, and please don't ever let anyone take that sparkle away from your eyes. Do not let anyone ever make you think that you are anything less than spectacular. The world is a cruel place, and I have been caught, a few times, in the rut of thinking I was ugly, fat, worthless, and annoying. It took many years, and lots of trial and error, in my self-healing, to teach myself that the words others may speak of me have no reflection of who I am, rather, of who they are. Although, I have learned, I am forever changed from allowing the bad guys of the world beat me down. You, my dear, must ignore them, hold your head high, and smile.

Boys may seem so important at fifteen and sixteen, and all of your friends will be dating, but remember that they will not be bringing home your school reports. They will not be leading you to victory in your track races, and they may not be there when you have a career, and your choices as a teenager have resulted in where you are. Boys are fun, but do not let them take priority. Say no when he wants to hang out, but you have an important Chemistry test, the next day. If he loves you, he'll understand, and reschedule. Any guy that becomes frustrated by you putting your future first, does not deserve a place in that fantastic life you will, soon, live.

Do not let your dreams be dreams. Do not let anyone think that your wants and needs in life are silly. Go after what you want, and go after it full force. I believe in you, and I will always be your sidekick as you conquer anything life will throw at you. You, yourself, are a miracle. The human body is such an amazing thing, and all that had to occur for you to exist, and all the processes going on in your body are beyond fascinating. If your cells can do all that they do, you, my love, can do anything.

God put you in my hands for a reason. Let my words be your guide, and my heart be your shelter.

Always know that you are loved. Always know that you are beautiful. Always embrace that you are strong.

Love,

Me

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
