An Open Letter To The Class Of 2020

From a graduating senior

You probably don't know me but maybe you've seen me around campus; in the library or maybe in passing in the Callahan. You're about to end your freshman year and I just wanted to congratulate you, good job on making it this far! You're almost done with finals and your first year of college is behind you. The thing is, I'm actually jealous of you because you have three more years spanning out in front of you. Three more years of making friends, going to class and parties and figuring out who you want to me. I've had my turn. I figured out who I am, grew up, and now I'm leaving this pretty school. I wouldn't have done anything different and I'm ready for the next chapter of my life.

One of the most important things that I learned during my four years at Endicott wasn't taught in the classroom, but in each small moment found throughout the years. And that lesson is to take things slow. Enjoy each moment you are given and take full of every advantage this school gives you. Whether that opportunity is an internship, a guest speaker or even a concert, you can definitely make the most of it.

I know I'm starting to sound like a promotional advertisement but I'm really telling the truth. I loved Endicott and I'll continue to love it in a few short weeks as an alumni. I want you all to love it just as much as I did so go to the beach when it's nice out, do well in your classes, and try to make the most of your time here.

Someday you will be in my shoes: about to graduate and both happy and sad about it. You'll have grown up (ps. No more lanyards around your necks, okay?), and you'll be older and hopefully wiser too. You'll have more knowledge under your belts, more travels logged, more miles walked and many more memories to fill your mind as you collect your diploma and walk away from your undergrad career.

I just wanted to say hello and officially goodbye as I finish up my finals and get ready to graduate. Good luck on your next three years, gulls!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
