Dear Ex-Best Friend,

I hope you are doing well.

It's been a while since I have talked to you. I want you to know that I miss you, but you probably don't feel the same way towards me. That's okay. I didn't expect you to. I'm sad that things ended the way that it did. I wish I could go back in time and change the outcome of our situation, but too much time has passed. It's too late.

I'd like to say that I'm sorry for a number of things.

I'm sorry that I didn't care more. I'm sorry that I held you responsible for all my secrets and I'm sorry that someone else is now my best friend. I'm sorry that we aren't making the memories that we thought we would make. I'm sorry that I didn't try harder to keep you as my friend. I'm sorry that we didn't take a lot more photos to remember our friendship by. I'm sorry that we will no longer be able to see each other.

Even though I'm sorry for a lot of things, I'm also thankful.

I'm thankful for all the memories that we did make. For all the laughs, tears of happiness, and smiles these past few years. For you always being honest with me and caring for me through my times of need. Thank you for all the sleepless nights that were spent just talking to each other and for the photos that we did take. I want to thank you the most for being the best friend that I needed during that part of my life.

It's weird not talking to you anymore to check up on you.

Sometimes I go through our old photos just to reminisce about the old days. I see conversations of our past messages and laugh. I haven't forgotten about our inside jokes and when I see something that reminds me of you, I almost always want to send it to you. Those moments when I want to contact you just remind me of what happened in the past, and I feel disappointed that we couldn't figure out a way to fix our problem.

I really miss you sometimes.

I hope that in the future we would unexpectedly meet and be happy to see each other. Hopefully that will rekindle our friendship, and we can forget about what happened when we stopped being friends. I look forward to hearing that you're happy with your life. I hope that you fulfilled your dreams and become successful in all that you do.

I want you to know that I'm not mad at you.

I'm not mad anymore. I will always be happy for you. I will always support you, and I hope you know I will always wish for the best for you. I'll always be here rooting for you from the sidelines. I am honored that you were my best friend and grateful for the lessons I have learned from our friendship. I am, and forever will be, grateful that I got to call you my best friend.

Sincerely,

Your Ex-Best Friend

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
