5 Things Nursing Students Do That Non-Nursing Students Hate

Nursing students are a breed of our own and we often do a lot of strange things, sometimes without even realizing it. Our brains are so focused on school that we shut almost anything and everything else out. Here are five things that we do to make everyone else slightly hate us.

1. We always travel in flocks

We all wear the same color, and most of us have the same schedule so we end up all walking together... Everywhere. So as a non-nursing student almost anywhere that you go you will see 5-10 nursing students together. You might as well steer clear of the library, and any "quick" place to get food. This has to be especially inconvenient when you're trying to get to class and the flock is taking up the whole walkway. We're sorry, we probably had a Patho test that day and we're half zombies by that point.

2. If we aren't actually studying, we're probably talking about studying

As mentioned earlier, a nursing student's life is consumed by school work. We have almost no social life because we're always studying. We have study groups, we study alone, we have group chats about studying, and that is our lives. If you ask how our day was we will probably complain to you about all of our tests coming up, then cut the conversation short because we "have to go study." We don't mean for it to be an excuse, so don't take it personal because that's what we tell everyone, and that's just how it is.

3. The only thing we ever watch on Netflix is "Grey's Anatomy"

Yes, we've watched every season three times already, but just face it, if we're watching Netflix, it's going to be Grey's Anatomy. There are absolutely no better options, so don't even try.

4. We watch gross videos and talk about medical situations while we eat

This may be the worst. Don't take us to dinner if you don't want us to talk about a wide array of bodily functions, or pull out our phones to watch a video of cysts being popped or a hernia repair. We love those kinds of things and don't mind talking about them at any time, even when we're eating, and we want you to join in. We probably don't even realize that you're grossed out.

5. We always want to practice our new skills

In the Nursing world, learning never stops. This means that there are always new skills to practice and we are willing to pick out any innocent bystander to use as a "patient". Whether it be taking a blood pressure or feeling for masses or lesions all over the body, you name it and we're probably going to try it, anywhere at anytime.

We sincerely apologize for doing all of these things, but it probably won't stop anytime soon so haters are just going to have to keep hating.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
