Who are you? Where are you? Are you where/who you want to be? Do you even know? Does anyone know? Am I doing the right thing?
If these thoughts have run through your head, you're not the only one. Sometimes, under immense pressure, abstract concepts like these become almost tangible weights, a ton of bricks on shoulders all over the world.
Even in elementary school, when we had to introduce ourselves, teachers would ask us to name something we wanted to be when we grew up. As I continued to run on my little track that is the American public school system, I noticed that everyone seemed to be focused on "finding themselves". But who was "myself"? Where is she? And how do I know when I have "found her"? The obsession of finding the "right" path seemed to be all around me. It seemed like everyone had a little GPS in their heads, telling them when to turn, when to join this club or that organization, what to do to maximize their efforts, what job to get.
But you know what? If you don't have a GPS, maybe you don't need one. I am trying to stop worrying about what path I take. Whatever you do, it's not too late to change. You don't have to feel tied down to only one possibility. You may find new roads, hidden from the maps. If you can't find yourself, make yourself. Carve yourself another path. Make yourself who you want to be; you have everything you need.
All in all, it's ok. Whatever it is, if it's not, it can and will be.
