The band OneRepublic has been around and in the minds of radio listeners and fans for a while. Getting their start with lead vocalist Ryan Tedder joining with guitarist Zach Filkins in 2002, they launched successfully into the mainstream with 2007’s “Apologize” remix by Timbaland, and nearly a decade later, they are coming off more recognition than ever on the onset of the fourth album “Oh My My.”
Following the success of such singles as “All the Right Moves,” “Secrets,” “Counting Stars” and more, “Oh My My” looks to repeat with their trademark OneRepublic success of being a family-friendly band (having been a headline act at Disney World in the past) and a trailblazer in alternative rock music.
The lead single off the fourth album, “Kids,” was revealed in August, priming music-lovers to buy the entire album, which just released Friday.
“Wherever I Go” along with “Kids” feels like an evolution of the cheery, nature-inspired vibe they were going for in their third album, “Native.”
While the band is usually upbeat, with songs concerning messages of living life to the fullest and achieving one’s goals, there are always the softer, more reflective tracks, and “Oh My My” is no exception here either. “Future Looks Good” has received massive praise from fans as one of their most beautiful pieces yet.
In fact, if you look at comments below their music videos, you’ll rarely see a complaint. Most self-described longtime fans say they appreciate how the band has evolved over the years and how, to many, they seem to improve their sound with every album.
Another single, “A.I.” is a new kind of experiment for the band. Peter Gabriel teamed up with the five members of OneRepublic to make an electronically-inspired song regarding the sci-fi concept of falling in love with artificial intelligence. This track has been called as both visionary and mediocre on the Internet and has undoubtedly received a lot of attention in the past week along with the rest of the album.
“Oh My My” is out now, so if you count yourself a OneRepublic fan or someone who has always wanted to get into their music, their most recent endeavor may be the best place to continue experiencing their work.
