The Ultimate 'One Tree Hill' Playlist

I may only be seven seasons in, but so far, "One Tree Hill" has one of the best soundtracks out of every TV show I've watched--and I've watched several. Music is such an integral part of the plot of the series, with Hayley being a singer/songwriter, and Peyton managing a record label, so it's fitting that the soundtrack reflects that.

Songs amplify the emotion of the scenes or montages they appear in. Without its unique, predominately alternative/rock soundtrack, "One Tree Hill" wouldn't feel like "One Tree Hill." The music makes the show. I find myself typing up lyrics on my phone as I watch so that I can find the songs on Google once the episode is done. They instantly grab my attention — especially the more mellow tunes. Here are 58 of my favorite songs — mostly the calmer, meaningful ones--from the show that sweep me off of my feet and carry me over to Tree Hill:

I know there are a ton, but trust me, if you love OTH, you will love these!

1. "Last Request" by Paolo Nutini

2. "Always Love" by Nada Surf

3. "They'll Never Know" by Ross Copperman

4. "Empty Room" by Marjorie Fair

5. "Better Than Love" by Griffin House

The beautiful lyrics "Save me from myself. You got my back when I need help. It's no one else in the world, you will always be my girl" bring up thoughts of Nathan and Hayley.

6. "Pitter-Pat" by Erin McCarley

7. "When the Stars Go Blue" by Tyler Hilton & Bethany Joy Lenz

8. "Wait for Love" by Matt White

9. "Hard to Love You" by The Wreckers

10. "Great Companion" by Landon Pigg

11. "Sewn" by The Feeling

12. "Life is Beautiful" by Vega4

With lyrics such as "life is beautiful, but it's complicated, we barely make it," "there are miracles," and "hearts--they beat and break," this song epitomizes the themes of OTH.

13. "A Message" by Coldplay

14. "Within You" by Ray LaMontagne

15. "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" by Spoon

16. "Ashes and Wine" by A Fine Frenzy

17. "Forever and Ever Amen" by 8mm

18. "I'll Be" by Low vs Diamond

19. "Apologies" by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

20. "Broken" by Lifehouse

This song is about being broken and holding on; it's very Peyton-esque to me.

21. "All Downhill from Here" by Amy Kuney

22. "No One's Aware" by Jack Savoretti

23. "As It Must Be" by Joey Ryan

24. "The Sound" by Paper Route

25. "It Couldn't Be Me" by Johnathan Rice

26. "Twenty Years" by Augustana

27. "Between the Minds" by Jack Savoretti

28. "Home" by Foo Fighters

Home is Tree Hill and the people in it. (Especially Nathan and Lucas because bromances are the best.)

29. "Violet Hill" by Coldplay

30. "Furthermore" by Katie Herzig

31. "No Envy No Fear" by Joshua Radin

32. "Dreamers" by Jack Savoretti

33. "Once When I Was Little" by James Morrison

34. "Hawaii" by Meiko

35. "Dreamer" by Uh Huh Her

37. "Don't Say" by St. Lola In the Fields

38. "Safe At Home" by Starsailor

39. "I Don't Know" by Shelly Fraley

40. "Come Around" by Rosi Golan

This song is about someone not admitting when they love someone else, which is a common occurrence in OTH.

41. "Begin You" by Kate York

42. "Days Like This" by Kim Talor

43. "Long Time Nothing New" by Pete Yorn

44. "Been a Long Day" by Rosi Golan

45. "All Broken Hearts" by Tyrone Wells

46. "Save You" by Matthew Perryman Jones

47. "Love Is the End" by Keane

48. "Light Catches Your Face" by Bell X1

49. "On My Own" by The Trigger Code

50. "Easy to Love" by Sons of William

51. "Deeper Side of You" by Phillip LaRue

These lyrics can't help but make me think of Brooke after she was attacked: "Don't let them take you down. Let them hear you sing, singing out."

52. "Wonder" by Jack Savoretti

53. "To Build a Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra

54. "Feather In the Wind" by Susie Suh

55. "I and Love and You" by The Avett Brothers

56. "Simple As It Should Be" by Tristan Prettyman

57. "Inside These Lines" by Trent Dabbs

58. "I Don't Want to Be" by Gavin DeGraw

Of course, the theme song had to be in this playlist!

Here's a Spotify playlist with nearly all of the songs! Enjoy! (Find the others on YouTube/iTunes, etc. They are worth a listen!)

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
