Why One Size Does NOT Fit All

“One size fits all.” This statement could not possibly be any more inaccurate. If anybody believes this, I’m not quite sure what to tell you, because simply placing “the whole of (used in referring to quantity, extent, or duration)” as stated as the dictionary.com definition of the word “all” into one category is something I will never wrap my head around. That is just the same as saying we can take all of the people in this world, have them try on the same exact pair of pants, and hypothesize that they should fit everybody. It’s just not true.

There are several popular brands that have taken the world by storm with their trendy pieces that every girl must have their hands on. I am not saying I don’t fall under this category, because I have purchased items of clothing labeled “one size fits all.” Whether the clothing fits or not is a different story. The first brand I think of when it comes to this is Brandy Melville.

A stylish chain of stores located across the map from California to NYC, including several other American locations, as well as Canada, and other countries. A store filled with comfy, appealing trends that so many enjoy shopping in. Throughout the store. they actually have signs that say “one size fits most.” However. this isn't any truer than “one size fits all,” simply because it does not fit most.

This article is not aiming to bash the company, or prevent people from giving them business. This article is to raise awareness that their idea that “one size fits all” is not something I think they should be proud of, and not something we should believe in. In society, there are far too many people who feel awful about themselves, perhaps because of their body image, which can deflate their confidence tremendously. A lot of this lack of self-esteem comes from how society shows what we should all look like. People don’t feel comfortable in their own skin because of labels like this. “One size fits all,” and even “one size fits most” implies that it should fit everybody, or mostly everybody.

When girls try on the clothing and it doesn't fit them, they feel ashamed, embarrassed, frustrated or even angry, because they don’t fit into this large category being advertised. But these are all of the things they shouldn't feel. It opens eyes that there is no way everybody can fit into the same pair of pants, that is ridiculous. Everybody in this world is unique in their own way; we were not made to fit into the same pair of pants. So the next time you’re trying on a pair of “one size fits all” shorts and they fit you, great! But if they don’t, that’s also great. It’s great because you stand out. And you should be proud of it.

Pick yourself up, go to a different store, and find a better pair of shorts that make you feel outstanding. Outstanding about your body, your image, and the person you are, because a foolish phrase like “one size fits all” should not be allowed to control the way you see yourself, or see anybody else. We should not spend life comparing ourselves to others, because we are all different on purpose. That means there shouldn't be any comparison. One size fits SOME. Not most, and surely not all. No size fits all.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
