Amidst the crumbling social structure of Venezuela, there are those who try and create a silver lining. Father Jose Palmar tried to spread the idea of labeling discarded leftovers in an attempt to restore some dignity to those that were unfortunate enough to find themselves surviving through the scraps of others. This way, the hungry would not have to dig through a household’s trash to find their dinner. He recommends that these leftovers should be placed in one bag and marked as food.
It is a shame that any country has to rely on such practices in order to sustain their population. However, the reality is that in Venezuela, the young and old scavenge to survive. This issue all stems from the political situation in Venezuela. Their inflation rate is expected to rise to 1,660% this year. Ultimately, the citizens of Venezuela feel the effects of the crumbling economy and are forced to scavenge for their meals.
Nevertheless, in a bleak a situation such as Venezuela’s, symbols of hope will continue to permeate throughout the surrounding despair. Father Jose Palmar just so happens to be one of these symbols of hope in an ever crumbling economy.
