"You see us. You hear us."

A Letter To The Phi Lamb Exec. Team
Gillian Howlett

To me, Phi Lamb is more than a sorority; it isn't just a sisterhood either. Phi Lamb is a second home to me. a place where everyone is there for each other and we support each other no matter what.

It is well known that in order to run effectively (or even exist at all) sororities, including Phi Lamb, must have an Exec Team. An Exec team typically consists of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and in Phi Lamb's case, Chaplain.

An open letter to our Exec Team:

I see you. I see how hard you're working to not only do your jobs but to make sure others are taken care of too. I see you. I see you giving your all to this organization and its members. I see you doing everything you can to implement changes, drastic or non-drastic, as smoothly as you can. I see you.

I hear you too. I hear you when you try to sound as upbeat as possible but I can hear the stress and frustration creeping in. I hear you.

One night last fall at chapter, you all came in and I knew something was up. You told us that NONE of you on Exec wanted to be there tonight. You told us that people had been calling you dictators. When you said that I could hear the hurt in your voice and see the hurt and tears in your eyes. You are NOT dictators. You are an exec team that is doing the best they can with the circumstances at hand and everything at stake.

YOU see US. You see us when we're hurting, stressing, and jumping for joy. You see us when we're confused, quiet, and angry. You see us. You see us doing the best we can to adjust to new routines when it comes to events and chapters. You see us on campus and always say hi and ask how we are.

You hear us. You hear the hurt in our voices, anger, confusion, and happiness. You hear us. You love this organization. You cleared your calendars and stepped back from other organizations to lead this one.

I've got your back. Even when I may not fully agree with a decision, I've got your back. I'll back you up to the best of my ability. I've got your back and you've got mine.

You picked a theme for this year: Transparency. You have done your best to be as open and transparent with us as you can. I have felt a change over the last several months. We are being more open and honest with each other than before.

Because of you, the exec team, I can truly appreciate what goes on behind the scenes even though I don't know half of it. You give your all to this organization and before I graduate I too hope to be on Exec Team so that I can continue to give my all too.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for this organization.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
