It’s funny how all of a sudden everyone seems to be a fan of Justin Bieber, when just a few years ago people used to make fun of me for liking his music. You could say that I’ve been a fan since the very beginning. I am one of those girls who discovered him in his early YouTube days.
I remember scrolling through YouTube when all of a sudden I came across this kid who seemed to be about my age, singing on stage at what looked like a talent show. I clicked on the video and sure enough it was this really talented, really adorable kid singing Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’”. It was almost instantly that I knew he would be famous some day and from that moment on I was hooked. I subscribed to his YouTube channel and watched every video he posted. Eventually, he was discovered by Scooter Braun, then signed by Usher and the rest is history. I was obsessed and Bieber Fever had taken over me.
It wasn’t until 2010 that I was finally going to get see my very first Justin Bieber concert. I was also going to be given the opportunity to meet him and I couldn’t have been more excited. The night before the big day, I barely slept. I couldn’t contain my emotions for the next day ahead. To this day, I still remember that night being one of the best nights of my life. Just a few shorts week later I was able to see him again and won another contest to meet him. It almost didn’t seem real that I was going to be face to face with Justin for a second time. That night was just as memorable as the first night and in that moment, I knew there was no going back.
From that point on, I made it my priority to see and meet Justin whenever I had the chance. I even traveled to New York City to see him perform on "The Today Show." It was my mission to see him as often as I could. My parents even surprised me with a trip to Ottawa, Canada, where we have family, to see him there.
It’s been three years since Justin last toured and he is back at it on his Purpose Tour. Of course, I had to get tickets to his shows here in Boston. I’m tired of getting asked why I’m still a fan of him, all these years later. All I keep hearing is, “You’re in college and you’re still not over that phase of your life?” And the answer is yes, I am in college and no, I am definitely not over that “phase”, because to me it is much more than just a silly phase, it’s become a part of my life.
Both of his sold out shows here in Boston were amazing; he never seems to disappoint. I would see the show every night if I could… don’t tempt me. I even plan on seeing him this fall in London; I will be studying abroad there and he will be playing for six nights at the O2 Arena.
My obsession with Justin has yet to die down; if anything it’s only gotten worse. After all that he’s done, and every thing he’s been through, I’m still here supporting him and I have no plans on going anywhere. As he grows as an artist, I’m growing as a person and I love watching him on his crazy journey. Once a Bieber fan, always a Bieber fan.
