There's an age-old saying most everyone knows well: "If you fight fire with fire, you're going to get burned."
While it's old and tired and cliche -- it rings true for this whole gun control debate.
I've had enough of the "more guns" argument. Are you serious? That actually allows for better access to people who can't obtain a gun because they may know someone who has one.
OK -- I get it. You can't let go of your weapon because the Second Amendment.
Let's unpack this in context, shall we?
The Second Amendment was written the the thought in mind that people deserved the right to protect themselves from the British army. We are not in danger of the British army anymore -- we are in danger from ourselves -- and giving each other more guns is not going to help this. The context has changed. We have evolved as a society over time.
We are scared. We are terrified. Giving out more guns isn't going to help that.
Great! Good people own guns now. Great! Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Keep living in your misinformed, ignorant, happy fairy land where everyone with guns is a good guy and if you just shoot the perpetrator that solves everything.
People can still die before help comes. If you take the guns out of the equation completely -- there is a much smaller chance of that even happening.
America cultivates a society of violence and hate; that much is obvious. I know there are countries where people are allowed to own guns and there aren't mass shootings. OK. Fine. But we are not those countries. That will not work here.
The proof is in the disturbing amount of people we've buried this year as a result of the 350+ mass shootings.
You wouldn't hurt people with a gun? Good for you! Maybe you won't -- but people are still dying. I don't know why this is such a huge debate.
I'm done listening to the "thoughts and prayers" bull. If people really cared, they'd do something -- because God isn't intervening anytime soon -- and we need to get a reality check so that we can stop living in our happy Christian world.
Get a hold of what's really happening. Do some research. Let go of your precious, self-validating weapon and do something to start protecting each other.
I will end this with a quote from Stephen King, who sums up the pro-gun debate perfectly well in these eloquent sentences: "Semi-automatics have only two purposes. One is so owners can take them to the shooting range once in a while, yell yeehaw, and get all horny at the rapid fire and the burning vapor spurting from the end of the barrel. Their other use -- their only other use -- is to kill people."
