It's finally here. After waiting for four years and hearing many different stories and problems involving Brazil, the Olympics have finally arrived. With the opening ceremony on Friday August 5, the 2016 Olympics have finally begun. If you're anything like me, then I know you're pretty excited. The Olympics have always been something I've enjoyed watching, so having them back on my TV is great. Here are my top reasons as to why the Olympics are the greatest time of every four years.
1. The opening ceremonies
The opening ceremonies are my favorite. While my all-time favorite opening ceremony was the 2012 London Olympics, I enjoy watching them all. They are always so aesthetically pleasing. They are also very rich in culture. For example, I really loved the opening ceremony in Brazil because it was so interesting when it came to the culture, which I admittedly did not know much about. I think it's a great, fun way to learn about other cultures without having to read. Plus, it's usually really creative and artistic, so that's also a plus.
2. You feel accomplished even though you have done nothing.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I find it hard to not feel accomplished after watching the Olympics, even though I'm not actually doing anything. I find the Olympics to be very motivating, however, I never actually get up and do the things that I'm "motivated" to do. There is, however, something about watching other people accomplish different things that just makes you feel good about yourself. Yeah, maybe I have been laying on the couch watching the Olympics all day, but I do feel great about myself. And guess what, I could probablydo cool dives now after watching for so long, so I consider that a win.
3. You're introduced to cool new sports.
So, to be completely honest, I don't know most of the sports that actually happen at the Olympics. I find it great that you can turn the Olympics on and see something you have never seen before. I mean, to be fair, the sports that get the most coverage are the sports everyone is the most familiar with. But it's still inspiring that there are so many different sports to consider. I just find it really exciting that there are almost endless possibilities.
4. A lot of the athletes are really inspiring
I love to hear about athletes competing from various countries and their stories. For example, a group of refugees will be competing this year on the same team. It's always really great to see people overcome and succeed at something they love.
I can't wait to see what the 2016 Olympics hold.
