It was announced last week that five sports would be added to the 2020 summer olympics in Tokyo. Those sports are karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, softball, and baseball. I will be focusing on the addition of baseball. Now, baseball was a sport in the olympics from 1992-2012.
With the baseball taking part in the summer olympics and that being the heart of baseball season, I don't think we will see the professional MLB players like we see in basketball. The MLB schedule is 162 games, I don't think they will suspend play like the NHL does.
Some MLB stars commented on the fact that baseball was added to the olympics. Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs said, "I wore 'USA' across my chest one time in college, and it was an awesome experience. It'd be fun to do that again," he said. "But baseball season's so long the way it is. You play 162 games and to add another two weeks, I don't know if it would be the best decision for ourselves and our bodies."
Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles thinks it will have to be Triple-A players competing instead of major league guys. I agree with Jones because the baseball season is the longest season out of any major league sport. Along with Triple-A players I think there will be a lot of collegiate players as well.
