Being the oldest has very few perks...

1. To start, the first couple of years are great! You are the only child, and get all the attention, but then...

2. The other siblings come along, and it's good-bye to all the attention.

3. On top of that, it means good-bye to being right about everything.

4. We are the firsts for everything, which is a tad scary.

5. You are blamed for EVERYTHING that happens in your family.

6. Being the oldest means, 'you should know better then to do that...'

7. Because you need to be a role-model to your siblings.

8. And when you do mess-up, the youngest learn from all of your mistakes, so that they don't make them when they get older. Glad we screwed-up first for you...

9. We are stubborn, and we want our way.

10. Which means we are bossy, very bossy. We like to have control and power.

11. But the youngest always try to argue this power... We are older though, we have more wisdom then you young ones!

12. And when we do screw-up, which is ofter, it is like another World War.

13. But when they mess-up, they get a little slap on the wrist.

14. You think your license finally means some freedom. But no. It means you are the new soccer mom.

15. Then in the car, your siblings think they have power over the radio. Ah, hello, I'm driving, I get to pick the radio station...

16. So then you fight... And mom and dad tell you, 'you need to be more mature...'

17. When you reach the teenage years, there is a constant argument with your parents.

18. But when you leave the house for college, you wonder how your family will survive without you.

19. However, they will survive.

20. But they will miss you, a lot. Even though mom will still call you when you live miles away, asking where the car keys are... Sorry mom, I don't live at home anymore, I can no longer take the blame.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
