An older sister is so much more than just someone you grow up along side of. She is a role model, a second mom, a partner in crime, a person that is ALWAYS in your corner, and most of all a best friend. Growing up with my older sister, Emily, we were always quite close. We would bicker once in a while, but nothing ever catastrophic. It wasn't until she was about to go to college when we became as close as we are today. She is my best friend and the person I go to about literally everything. Her being at college only made us closer! We would talk as often as possible and I even made her keep a Snapchat streak with me just to make sure she never forgot about me. Now, I am the one at college and the streak is back, but this time to make sure I don't forget about her. But the thing is, I could never forget her. She is my rock and if for some reason I didn't have her, I would fall apart. When I decided to write about having an older sister, all I could think about is how do I even begin to explain this? How do I write an article, with all my feelings, that will make any sort of sense? I figured, this article will probably never be perfect in my eyes, but I'm going to try my best.

An older sister is a role model. I have made it a point to strive to work as hard as my sister does because she has worked her butt off her entire life and it's paying off. In fact, she texted me today that she got a raise at work! When you're in school you always get the inevitable question of, "who is your role model?" You here the typical famous actors, athletes, and successful philanthropists, but I was always proud to say that mine is, and always will be, my older sister.

An older sister is a second mom. Yes, sometimes this is the most annoying thing in the world, but it's also something I take for granted. I have a second pair of maternal eyes watching over me to make sure I am always okay. Someone to comfort me during times of heartbreak or make me tea when I'm sick in bed. This whole second mom thing has become even more true in my household because currently, Emily is working as a medical technician in an ophthalmology office. My mom is a registered nurse at an out-patient surgery center and she works with surgeons who perform eye surgery. Dinner conversations tend to go right over my dad's, as well as my head. Emily will be heading off to Physicians Assistant school soon. This means I will have two moms who are BOTH medical professionals.

An older sister is a partner in crime. She will be your getaway driver and your alibi. She is your personal photographer, photoshoot partner, co-chef, closet sharer, personal stylist, hype girl, real-life diary, etc. She is everything you need her to be and more.

An older sister is someone who is always in your corner. She is the first one standing when you take your bow after a show, the first one to hug you when you get your first college acceptance, the first one to try and fight the director when you don't get the role you want, and the first one to back your argument. My best shows are always the ones when I know my sister is sitting in the audience. I feel better telling my parents important things when I have already told my sister and she is sitting behind me for support. She is my safety net, ready to catch me when I fall.

An older sister is a best friend. When all of your other friends are being terrible people and make you feel unwanted, your sister is always there through thick and thin. The best sisters are the ones that will cancel their own plans because you were stood up by a friend and will now be sitting home alone for the evening. You can bet my sister has done this!!! We may drive each other insane, but that's what best friends and sisters are for.

I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for my older sister, so thank you for molding me into the girl I am today. Love you squishy!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
