Band Camp Changed My Life And Here's How

You hear the phrase, "everything happens for a reason" your entire life. Why would a week-long music camp be that one thing that changes the entire plan you thought you had?

4 years ago, I never would have imagined my life would have taken this path.

4 years ago, I was about to be a freshman in high school.

4 years ago, I was a 14 year old who was dead set on attending The University of Oklahoma to be a meteorologist.

4 years ago, I met an incredible family who took me to my first Oklahoma State Football game. I'm forever grateful for their love and support and little did I know, they were showing me my future. They told me of a music camp happening at Oklahoma State and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to further my musicianship. After the week, I got addicted; I have been, and attended every year since.

Fast forward to a year ago, year three of music camp. I got the privilege of meeting one of the most influential people that truly changed my perspective. A year ago, I was dead set on going to The University of Oklahoma for Elementary Music Education. Somehow, this individual convinced me that Oklahoma State is the place for me to be. Even though they weren't here this year, (and are missing out!) I'm so grateful this person will be in the Cowboy Marching Band with me this fall.

Year four of camp has allowed me to get to know my professors and faculty in the music department which is something few kids get to do before college starts.

Looking back, I have an incredible friend in orchestra at Oklahoma State University because I didn't know anyone that first year. We got to be roommates for 2 years at camp, which is mind blowing and I've met numerous OSU students through her as well. During year 3 I roomed with someone I knew well but I met plenty of other musicians as well. Year 4 brought numerous changes because we are staying in a different dorm. It was another potluck year for a roommate, but I gained an incredible friend. I hope she can use the camp experience in a similar way I did.

It's still insane my whole future began with a simple music camp in 2016. I have high hopes to be able to help with camp next year. This camp has impacted more than just my future, it's helped me become who I am and who I am meant to be.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
