While it isn't the biggest, flashiest or most exciting town in Oklahoma, growing up in Moore has given you stories and life lessons that you will share forever. From hot spots like the Skating Rink to the always interesting Moore War, you will never forget growing up in such a weird little town.
1. Moore War is more than just a game.
Moore War isn't just about football, it is about pride. Whether you were a Moore Lion or a Westmoore Jaguar, you knew that no other football game would ever compare to Moore War.
2. Crest or GFF is your go-to grocery store.
Forget Walmart Neighborhood Markets, Crest or GFF always serve your grocery needs.
3. The skating rink was the place to be.
During your preteen years, you probably spent countless Fridays waiting for someone to ask you to Couple Skate.
4. Kid's Play Park was a wooden kingdom.
Despite it being build within the last 15 years, Kid's Play has become a staple in Moore children's childhood memories.
5. You heard trains CONSTANTLY.
It seemed like every time you were about to fall asleep, the roaring noise of a train whistle would shatter your slumber.
6. You've been to at least one Red Ribbon Parade.
Whether you were on a float with your school, performing with your dance group or catching candy on the side with your parents, you've attended this annual parade at least once of twice.
7. Your high school mascot was some type of big cat.
Lions and Jaguars and Sabercats, oh my!
8. Most of your summer was spent at the Moore Public Pool.
While it may be closed now, we will never forget those long hours at the pool.
9. Either you or your sibling played some kind of community sport.
Basketball, baseball, football, soccer. The City of Moore offered so many opportunities for their young citizens to participate in any sport they could want.
10. You know where Toby Keith is from.
It's hard not knowing Toby Keith is from your town when there's a GIANT water tower letting you know.
11. When people ask you where you're from you answer, "Moore. It's right by Norman."
Our hometown is just obscure enough that most people have no idea where it is.
12. You use tornado sirens to check the time.
If a tornado siren wakes you up on a Saturday, you know exactly what time it is.
13. It's 12th Street, not 119th Street.
119th street is a street in Oklahoma City... Does this look like Oklahoma City to you?!
14. The Warren is a blessing and curse.
While having such a beautiful movie theater to watch the newest movies in is pretty amazing, the horrible traffic on the weekends from people coming in from other towns is not.
15. Tornadoes.
We've all been affected by one of the hundreds of tornadoes that has plowed through our little town. But our community is one of strength and perseverance. So when someone asks you why you live in such a tornado-prone area, you can honestly say, "Because I love my town."
