That Halloween Eve night changed so many lives forever as you changed lives any chance Brady, you had. You were always prepared to lend a hand to anyone in need and even now that you're gone, you are still changing lives, thanks to Senate Bill 464, or as we call it, Brady's Bill.
Senate Bill 464 will honor that. This bill has been created and passed in Nevada so that immunity is granted to people under 21 for the consumption or possession of alcohol when calling for medical assistance for a friend or themselves.
We grew up together and lost touch but I will never forget the story I heard while we gathered in the chapel of your high school. A girl in one of your classes told the story of how one day she was really hungry in class and mentioned it. Without saying anything or looking for any recognition, you reached into your bag, pulled out a snack pack of Oreos and handed them to her. That's the type of guy you were.
This bill was passed about a year ago in Nevada, but it shouldn't stop there. Some have said that this bill will encourage underage drinking. Well I hate to break it to you, but underage drinking will happen. No matter what, it's going to happen. Having this bill could save lives and make situations where underage drinking safer. Looking back, there's multiple times that I myself could have used Senate Bill 464, but instead, I had to figure out how to handle the situation myself. Luckily, it was never as serious as others.
About half of the 50 states have the "Good Samaritan Act" or their version of Senate Bill 464. This should be all 50 states. In 2013, over 4,000 underage deaths in the United States were due to alcohol. If this bill was in place, so many lives could have been saved. I highly encourage everyone to look into the bill and encourage their state to pass a bill just like Nevada did in 2015.
Senate Bill 464/ Brady's Bill will help save so many teens in Nevada that are put into tough situations; a bill that I wish was established a long time ago. So if you are in a situation, call for help and if you don't have this bill in your state, I encourage you to take action and fight to get it.
Brady will forever be remembered as a genuine, kind and giving person always willing to help and in his honor, this bill will continue to help those who are in need. So thank you to those who fought to get this bill passed in Nevada and so many other states. It has and will continue to make a difference.
RIP Brady, you are loved and missed by so many.
