Why I'm Okay With Not Being Engaged

To everyone asking if my boyfriend and I will be getting engaged soon: Nope, we're stuck in "young love."

Why I'm Okay With Not Being Engaged

From my temple will fall a long white gown adorned with jewels. My hands will tightly hold a fresh bouquet and my feet will dance down the aisle as my heart leaps with love. This is the day -- the day I will say "I do."

Since the day I met Stefon, we've had a bond unbreakable and still love. Ya know "still" love -- he still does the silly things he did 513 days ago when he was trying to win my heart and I "still" blush and fix my hair when he's coming around. This is the love we have and, prayerfully, will always share. I'm not sure if it's because I am from the South and have been dating the same person for over a year, but everyone is singing the same tune, "Do you think he'll propose soon?"

As I come upon my senior year at Louisiana Tech, it seems as though all of my friends are either engaged or headed to the alter. I can't count how many times Stefon and I have been asked about that big step.

Before I dive deeper into our answer, let's clear up some "yes and no's." Yes: We have talked about marriage; we do want to marry each other and plan on being together long-term; I think being married and young is awesome; no, Not being engaged doesn't bother me; I don't think 21 is too young to be engaged; no, I don't believe the longer we wait, the more we will grow apart (don't know who came up with that one).

Since I was six years old, I've had my wedding planned and that's probably the only thing I have planned in my young life. I don't know what I will be eating for breakfast tomorrow, I don't know where I will be living or working after graduation, so I'm okay with not being engaged at this moment and if you're dealing with this, understand that too. It's okay, it really is, you don't have to be engaged right now. Let's learn to enjoy our young love phase.

I love my boyfriend and believe he will move mountains for me, but he's a junior (on a five-year plan) in college and a U.S. Airman and we are both figuring out major next steps -- career, financial stability, etc. Sure, I believe all of this can be done together and young, but we are two in love youngins with forever to go. Marriage is such a big deal to us and we believe it should be prayed over, prepared for and bathed in Jesus. We're enjoying dating and growing closer. We're both enjoying staying late over friend's houses, playing video games until midnight, riding in the buggy at Walmart, hanging out in ToysRUs, etc. We are enjoying our "young love" days, but if he proposed tomorrow, I'd say yes.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
