Why It's OK To Want Alone Time

Being in college, just about every moment you spend is with other people. While most of the time this is great and having the endless company is something you're thankful for, making some time for yourself isn't a bad thing.

In college it is so easy to forget about putting yourself first and worry about other people and having fun. You spend so much time with your roommates, classmates and everyone else you see on campus that the little free time you have seems to vanish. While spending time with your friends isn't a bad thing, devoting some time to yourself is necessary.

If there's one thing I've learned at college that I would have done more of, it's make time for myself and not worry about meeting the expectations of other people. It doesn't matter what you are doing, but making time for yourself will take a lot of the stress out of your life. Whether you're reading a book, taking a nap or just doing nothing at all. Take that time for yourself, it will help so much in the long run.

When going home for the summer, I a often scared that I'm not going to have anything to do, but I'm usually busier than I thought I was going to be. Taking that alone time for myself even during the summer is something I always need. From working constantly, to hanging out with family and friends, there's nothing wrong with just want to spend some time by myself.

In this world, it is often so hard to be alone because of the fear of missing out and because there are people around you at all times. Being alone can seem like something that is weird or out of the ordinary, but there is truly nothing wrong with it at all. It's a healthy way to escape from everything that is going on in your life to just reflect about everything you've been doing over the weeks. Being alone is something that everyone needs every once in awhile. Don't feel like you need to defend yourself for wanting to be by yourself. It is needed by everyone.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
