If you have been on the Web at all this week, you probably saw posts about how, once again, Ohio University is ranked as the No. 1 party school in the nation, according to Playboy magazine. I remember reading the articles and immediately thinking, OU OH YEAH!
Following Ohio University, are Iowa University and Florida State University. Last year, Ohio University didn’t even make the top ten list, but in 2011 we were No. 1. A lot of people have different opinions about us being crowned king of party schools, but I personally don’t see a problem with it. I think we're a school that best describes the saying "work hard, play hard," and I am proud to be an Ohio University student. Employers from many businesses even say that they actually prefer students from Ohio University because we are from an excellent school, where we have some of the top programs in the country, but we also develop social skills like no other here. For those of you who don’t know what makes Ohio University a party school this is why, and for those of you who know, here are things to get excited about this year:
Court Street
Court Street is a bar crawlers dream street with around 15 bars, and that doesn’t include the bars that are on side streets and such. Almost any night of the week you can find students walking up and down the streets bar-hopping and getting late-night food. The bars at Ohio University are not expensive like at some other schools. For example, you can buy a Tequila shot from the CI or Crystal for $2.75. With cheaper drinks, students are able to buy more.
Mill Street
If the bars aren’t really your scene or you are trying to find a place to knock a few back before you go uptown, Mill Street is the place to go. It is the longest street on campus and is full of off campus student housing. Mill Street also is the host to many fraternity annex houses. On any weekend, you could find a party or pregame on this street. Also in the warmer months many houses host day drinks in the yards with games such as beer pong, flip cup and more.
HallOUween
HallOUween is a celebration unlike any other. During HallOUween people come from all around the country for the festivities. The HallOUween block party is the No. 1 Halloween party in the country and third biggest block party in general following celebrations like Mardi Gras. Court Street becomes a mayhem during this weekend, with live concerts and students dressed up head to toe.
Homecoming
Homecoming is an OU tradition and something special to the students and alumni. During this week of celebrations, students celebrate our amazing school. Alumni even come back during this weekend and join in on all the festivities. “Kegs and Eggs” is a tradition during Homecoming weekend, students hit the bars and stay out til they close then go to parties after that until the sun comes up. Around 6 a.m. students enjoy eggs and go back to the bars.
Fests
If you go to Ohio University then you know what High Fest, Mill Fest and Palmer Fest are. In the spring semester each weekend there is a different fest named after the street it takes place on. It starts with Mill Fest and ends with Palmer Fest. The students line the street and drink all day long. There are endless numbers of kegs, cans and bottles. A lot of houses have DJs and the yards are packed. Fests are a highlight of Ohio University and are something unique and special to us.
#Number Fest
Behind Halloween this is the most famous party event Ohio University hosts. #Number Fest is the nation's largest college music festival, and it is unlike any other music festival you will ever go to. Students pack in cars and school buses with cases and coolers and head to a giant field that becomes the concert venue for the day. Thousands of people come to Fest, from schools all over. #Number Fest is complete madness and is definitely the most wild music festival in the country. Past performers have included Schoolboy Q, Wiz Khalifa, G Eazy, Diplo, Krewella, Timeflies, Chip Tha Ripper, Machine Gun Kelly and more.
